The stars of the American Repertory Theater’s production of Pippin will continue to make magic on Broadway! Matthew James Thomas, Patina Miller, Terrence Mann, Charlotte d’Amboise, Rachel Bay Jones and Tony winner Andrea Martin are set to star in the forthcoming Broadway revival of Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson’s 1972 musical. Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Chet Walker, Pippin is scheduled to begin performances March 23 at Broadway’s Music Box Theatre, with an official opening night set for March 23.
Pippin will star Thomas in the title role, Miller as the Leading Player, Mann as Charles, d’Amboise as Fastrada, Jones as Catherine and Martin as Berthe. The musical tells the story of a young prince (Thomas), as he is guided on a journey by a mysterious group of performers, led by the Leading Player (Miller). Pippin first opened on Broadway on October 23, 1972, directed by Bob Fosse. The production earned 11 Tony nominations, including Best Musical. Pippin features a score of memorable songs including “Magic to Do,” “Glory” and “Corner of the Sky.”
The Pippin company will also include Erik Altemus as Lewis, Gregory Arsenal, Andrew Cekala, Lolita Costet, Colin Cunliffe, Andrew Fitch, Orion Griffiths, Viktoria Grimmy, Olga Karmansky, Bethany Moore, Brad Musgrove, Stephanie Pope, Philip Rosenberg, Yannick Thomas, Molly Tynes and Anthony Wayne.
Thomas made his Broadway debut as the alternate Peter Parker in Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. His film and TV credits include Billy Elliot, The Lost Prince, About a Boy and Britannia High. Miller earned a Tony nomination for Sister Act, her Broadway debut, and appeared in the Shakespeare in the Park production of Hair.
Mann earned Tony nominations for Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables. His additional Broadway credits include The Addams Family, Lennon, The Rocky Horror Show, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Getting Away With Murder, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Rags, Cats and Barnum. D’Amboise earned Tony nominations for A Chorus Line and Jerome Robbins’ Broadway. Her additional Broadway credits include Sweet Charity, Contact, Chicago, Company, Damn Yankees, Carrie, Song and Dance and Cats.
Jones has appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Hair. Martin earned a Tony for My Favorite Year and additional nominations for Young Frankenstein, Oklahoma! and Candide. Known for appearing on SCTV, Martin’s additional film and TV credits include Wag the Dog, Anastasia, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Sesame Street.
Pippin will feature circus creation by Gypsy Snider of 7 Fingers, set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Dominique Lemieux, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Clive Goodwin and orchestrations by Larry Hochman.
